Maine Coast Memorial Hospital's Rehabilitation Services Job Placement Assessment (JPA) uses the following criteria to insure that your employees possess the requisite physical capabilities to perform the job.
Based on business and industry standards.
Predictive, defensible outcome data on worker injuries.
Reduce company's healthcare costs.
Functional testing, therefore functional outcomes.
Objective protocols.
Level of client participation.
F.A.Q.
What information does JPA provide?
Provided for non-injured workers only, the results provide information on body mechanics, cardiac output, and whether the worker can meet the physical demands of the job. A qualifier determination may also be provided.
What about ADA?
The ADA permits post offer screening once a conditional offer of employment has been made (this may vary in some states). This screening must be administered to all qualified individuals, must be job related, and test the "essential functions" of the job.
I want to hire this worker, but how do I screen him to be sure that he meets the physical demands?
The Job Placement Assessment is designed to evaluate the worker with regard to the physical job demands. During the evaluation, the Assessment Specialist also notes the proper use of body mechanics and cardiovascular response. We use The American Academy of Sports Medicine guidelines for acceptable cardiac output over an extended period of time to determine the cardiac stress index rating". Ultimately, the worker is given a rating of red, yellow or green. A recent study with regard to these ratings and the probability of injury was completed. It states that although further study is needed, these ratings appear to have predictive values.
What is the best way to get the most information from the JPA?
When an accurate job description is provided, the Assessment Specialist can make the most accurate judgments with regard to specifics. Therefore, if a job description is not available, ask us to provide you with a job analysis. The Job Analysis will help you meet The Americans with Disabilities Act requirements for "functional" job descriptions.
