The 17th Annual Poinsettia Ball, sponsored by Machias Savings Bank and R. H. Foster Energy, to benefit Maine Coast Memorial Hospital was a spectacular event. The $50,000 netted from the Ball is dedicated to the new F. Eugene Dixon, Jr. Emergency Center currently under construction. $20,000 of this amount will be dedicated to a much-deserved room for EMTs who do so much for our community. The balance of the funds will purchase needed equipment for the new emergency center.

Robert W. Foster, President – R.H. Foster Energy, LLC thanked guests for their support of the Poinsettia Ball, Maine Coast Memorial Hospital and particularly this year's beneficiary of the proceeds, the new F. Eugene Dixon, Jr. Emergency Center.

Over 500 guests enjoyed the delicious meal catered by Chipper’s Restaurant and danced to the music of Jump City Jazz. The Ball Room was adorned with angels complete with harpist Grey Maxim entertaining the guests with music of the season.

A highlight of the evening was the auctioning of a dinner for eight donated and catered by Rich Malaby of The Crocker House Country Inn. Before the auction was over, the dinner had grown to dinner for 20 with tablescapes donated by Wallace Tent, floral arrangements and chocolates by The Bud Connection, wine provided by the Poinsettia Ball Committee, limousine service donated by Bub Anderson, owner of Crystal Limousine, live music provided by Kaveh Haghkerdar and 100 gallons of fuel oil donated by Hancock Oil! Atlantic Landscape owners Sam and Tim Francis were the high bidders at $5,000.

Sponsors of this magical evening, Machias Savings Bank and R. H. Foster Energy, were joined by Albert and Barbara Harmon who provided the 500 poinsettias for the majestic 16 feet tall poinsettia tree, Dr. Peter Cummings of Hancock Dental who provided the live music of Jump City Jazz, and Frank and Bette Pierson who sponsored the harpist.

This evening was a wonderful example of our community working together to provide the best in healthcare for our friends and neighbors. The new F. Eugene Dixon, Jr. Emergency Center is expected to be completed in the spring of 2010.
